Get Involved at Gethsemane

Volunteers are the hearts and hands of Gethsemane. The opportunities listed below have been identified as urgent needs in the life the church and its ministry to the community, along with countless other ways to get involved. For more ways to get involved, join us on Sunday morning!

Shelf of Hope

The Shelf of Hope is our outreach to those in the downtown community who experience food insecurity. We team with Second Harvest Heartland to provide fresh and packaged foods on Wednesdays from 10:00a - 1:00p to those in need. In a normal week, we service about 100 guests. We also know that this means more than 300 individuals are served weekly, as many guests receive food for their families. If you wish to be a part of this ministry, please contact Kathy Hoglund.

The Shelf of Hope is looking for someone who can head over once a week to Second Harvest in Maplewood on Fridays or Tuesdays at 7:15 a.m. to harvest what extra goods are available and bring them to Gethsemane. If you are interested, please see Kathy McCarty or Deacon Vant Washington.

Dough-nation

On Tuesday evenings, volunteers pick up baked goods from Panera on Nicollet Mall in Downtown Minneapolis and drop them off at Gethsemane for distribution on Wednesday through The Shelf of Hope. Volunteers usually make the pick-up one time per month. Contact Wyn Knittel for details.
