All lay leaders are assigned to serve on a rotating basis. If you are involved as a chalice bearer, lector or crucifer, you will receive a schedule from the church office. Please check the Sunday bulletin for schedules and updates.
Acolytes at Gethsemane serve during the ten o’clock services as assisting ministers of the liturgy. They are members of the church who have made a commitment to serve faithfully in this ministry. Contact Elaine Madigan for more information or to become an Acolyte.
The Altar Guild is a group called to serve by preparing and tending the places where people worship. Their work is a thank offering of time and many talents – a ministry of love undertaken in the name of Christ. This dedicated group’s ministry is to keep services, baptisms, weddings, and funerals running smoothly and altar linens and clergy vestments clean. Contact Fran Bly for more information or to join the Altar Guild.
The Chalice Bearer is the one who administers the Chalice during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. If you wish to be involved in this ministry, please speak to the vicar about receiving training.
At Gethsemane Church, we feel that hospitality plays a special role in our outreach and community life. Hospitality ministers may sign up to provide treats and serve visitors and members for coffee hour after Sunday services or may be involved in functions such as community dinners and receptions. Please contact Wyn Knittel or the church office if you wish to be involved in this important ministry.
Lectors read the scripture during the celebration of most services. Please speak with the vicar if you are interested in receiving training for this important function in our community.
Ushers help make the worship experience hassle free and spiritual for all participants. Their responsibilities include distribution of the bulletin and weekly announcements, passing the plate during the offertory, and guiding worshipers to Holy Communion. After service they collect stray bulletins and generally spruce up the sanctuary. They also assist at special services such as weddings and funerals. Ushers serve on teams approximately once per month. If you would like to be an usher, please contact Mary Martin.
